Most of the shoes were done in super hero comics which looked great because of the glossy paper that the comics are printed on. I have never felt strongly towards any superhero before so decided to go a different route. I have this weird love for Archie, I used to sit at my grandma's house and read and reread the ones that she still had from the 70s. Veronica has always been my favorite, Leah likes Betty.
On to the project--
I got the Archie comic at Half Price books for a dollar. I was worried that it was going to smear or fade because the comics were printed on newspaper-like paper. I did a test on a piece of cardboard to see how it was going to look after it dried. It turned out surprisingly great. The decoupage glue just smells like Elmer's glue but dries clear and much more solid than regular glue.
The decoupaging was SO MUCH WORK. Each shoe took me about an hour. Trying to find enough pictures that fit right and to get them glued on without any wrinkles was so hard. Plus I had to have EVERY inch covered so that took longer to fill in little spaces that I missed. And you have to know your hands are going to be sticky and gross there is no way around it.
Finished!
